GainSpan Evaluation Boards (EVBs) are flexible hardware platforms to evaluate the capabilities of GainSpan modules based on our GS2000 Wi-Fi chips, and to enable development of hosted and hostless ( no attached MCU) application software. The EVBs bring out all the pins of the corresponding modules and expose features such as the UART, SPI and SDIO interfaces, high resolution ADCs, temperature and light sensors, I2C interface to sensors and Apple MFI authentication coprocessor (for MFI licensees), and I2S interface to external DAC. The EVB is part of the GS2000 SDK and supports the JTAG interface for software development and debugging. It also provides a daughter card connector that customers can use to connect to their host processor board or custom application boards.

Our EVBs provide all the hardware and software necessary to quickly set up a serial-based (UART, SPI or SDIO) link to a PC or external microcontroller. Various jumpers, switches, push buttons and LEDs provide support for evaluating different features and configurations based on the firmware loaded.

An EVB can be used to develop hostless applications as well as hosted applications, using the GS2000 SDK or SDK Builder respectively. It ships with Serial-to-Wi-Fi software preloaded on the module. However, customers should load the latest version of the module firmware that is the most suited for their application from the GainSpan portal, or program the board with custom binaries built using the GainSpan SDK Builder or GS2000 SDK.
