Telit Technology Helps Address Safety Concerns In Schools and Campuses

Campus Eye system employs Telit CDMA module technology in the MessageQube cellular printer to report suspicious activity and respond quickly to incident reports.

Raleigh, N.C. – August 25, 2014 – Telit Wireless Solutions, a leading global provider of high-quality machine-to-machine (M2M) modules and services, has announced that the North American CE910-DUAL variant of the company’s xE910 family of unified form factor modules will be used in future versions of the Campus Eye reporting as MessageQube devices that currently utilize the CC864 module.

Concerns about safety issues in educational establishments have grown in recent years as a result of a number of violent incidents.  A synergistic combination of a dedicated mobile app and M2M communications technology has enabled the development of Campus Eye, which is a sophisticated solution that allows students and staff to make real-time reports on suspicious activities and when necessary to quickly engage with campus police.

Telit modules are embedded in one or more MessageQubes, which are cellular printers that power the system.  They print report information, plus tips and leads in the form of text messages, and send the information to a secure, online dashboard for viewing and action.  Reports are also printed out in order to alert personnel that information has been filed. Authorized individuals are then able to take prompt action having received accurate and timely reports.

In addition there is a unique 10-digit phone number that is used to report suspicious activities as well as safety concerns and facilities issues.  Reporting is facilitated by a free Campus Eye mobile app for iPhones and Android devices.  In addition location information and photos add to message content to enhance the information.  In a nutshell, Campus Eye makes it easy for people to say something, in confidence, when they see something.

“Communities are safer when crimes and unsafe conditions are reported to the police”, said Kim Vansell, former Chief of Police at the University of Central Missouri and now Executive Director of the Center for Campus Safety.  “Campus Eye provides a very convenient way of communicating to public safety authorities. This technology improves communication and is very practical for today’s students.”

“This is yet another example of the way that M2M is bringing important, tangible benefits to communities,” said Mike Ueland, President of Telit Americas. “It is hard to overstate the importance of ensuring that our schools and colleges are safe environments and we’re pleased that our communications technology is playing a pivotal role.”
