ILS Technology’s deviceWISE Brings Home Two Awards from M2M Battle of the Platforms

M2M Evolution
By Rachel Ramsey
ILS Technology kicked off M2M Evolution Conference & Expo on a great note. The company hosted its ILS Technology Workshop, which provided an in-depth look at the company’s deviceWISE platform and its various use cases. Attendees also had the chance to look at the platform hands-on, with potential application demonstrations, like that of a connected refrigerator. The company also participated in the Battle of Platforms, going home with two awards for Best Application Development and Best Horizontal Platform.
A few things have changed since ILS Technology’s participation at the last M2M Evolution Conference & Expo. For starters, the company is now a part of Telit, which acquired ILS in September 2013. ILS’ deviceWISE platform is now an element of Telit’s m2mAIR, offering managed and value-added services for M2M. The second thing that has changed is the workshop participation rate – the 2014 workshop was the company’s fourth rendition, and participation more than doubled from 2013.
The Application Development award recognized ILS for tying its solution to business intelligence and supporting innovation to third parties, while the Horizontal Platform award recognized its platform for serving broad vertical markets.
Jim Wert, GM and VP of Research and Development at deviceWISE, explained that Telit offers a combined portfolio (supporting its one-stop, one-shop mentality) that goes beyond cellular modules, including short-range wireless, GPS and other related services, such as m2mAIR and deviceWISE, rounding out the ecosystem to provide more value to customers.
Key partners of the deviceWISE-ready ecosystem – which promotes interoperability between partner devices and the deviceWISE platform – include Option Wireless, Sprint, Persistent Systems and Abstracta Studios. These integrations reduce the risk, time-to-market, complexity and cost of deploying complete end-to-end M2M solutions.
ILS Technology aims to reduce three things when it comes to M2M applications: time, risk and complexity. deviceWISE powers numerous applications, including fleets, restaurants, buildings, pipelines, data centers, factories and more, enabling them to all become smart.  It also offers the Telit global footprint, which expects to onboard 100 million devices in the next five years. ILS works with the TIA TR-50 standard, enabling companies to future-proof their applications.
Charlie McNiff, working with business development at ILS, explained at the Battle of the Platforms that there are three reasons companies look to implement M2M applications: to generate new revenue streams, to save money and to be compliant. ILS helps with all three.
