Duodigit Employs Telit Cellular Modules to Connect Weather Stations in Remote, Adverse Environments

Duodigit’s DD3G modem ensures real-time communication of weather conditions for nation-wide network of weather stations in Brazil

São Paulo, March 17 2015 – Telit Wireless Solutions, a global enabler of the Internet of Things (IoT), today announced that Brazil-based Duodigit is to deploy its DD3G professional modem for use in a network of weather stations. Brazil is a large country and accurate weather forecasting requires nation-wide data collection involving coverage of remote locations, often with poor or restricted access.
DD3G employs the Telit HE910 EUD module which is a member of the xE910 family, operates on 3G but switches automatically from HSPA+ to EDGE / GSM if 3G coverage is not available. With band support in the frequencies of 800/850, 900 and 2100MHz for HSPA+; 850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz for GSM/EDGE, the product can be used with all Brazilian mobile operators.
Humidity, Barometric Pressure, Rainfall, Rain Rate and Wind Speed data collected from the weather stations is sent to a main office where it is analyzed and the information is then used to forecast weather conditions. The DD3G professional modem ensures that data is transmitted even from remotely located weather stations subjected to adverse environmental and energy conditions.
“Information about climate conditions and weather forecasts are essential for businesses, people and governments to make better decisions, and our solution improves the availability of data collected by weather stations”, said Luiz Henrique Correa Bernardes, Technical Director of Duodigit. “Connected stations allow the information to be collected faster, more precisely and in real time, improving in a meaningful way the reliability of the data available for specialists to analyze”.
“São Paulo’s ongoing water crisis has increased awareness of just how important is to improve weather forecasting”, says Ricardo Buranello, Vice President and General Manager of Telit Latin America. “Information is becoming more vital every day and the Duodigit solution is a good example of how the Internet of Things is an essential tool for collecting data anywhere in the world”.
