Birmingham, England, 12 May 2010, Telit Wireless Solutions, the manufacturer of the world’s smallest GSM module and a subsidiary of Telit Communications PLC (AIM: TCM),and TOBE GPS, UAB, a Lithuanian-based positioning device developer and manufacturer, today have signed a Heads of Agreement. In the future Telit will provide Tobe with itsGE865-QUAD GSM/GPRS module to develop the smallest personal GSM tracker to be presented to global markets.
The agreement between Tobe and Telit was endorsed at the world’s leading global annual security exhibition IFSEC in Birmingham attracting more than 25,000 security professionals and 600 world leading companies.
Based on the agreement, the smallest personal GSM tracker is scheduled to be presented to global markets as soon as August this year. The device is planned to measure 25x25x10 mm, with a charged battery expected to last at least 72 hours. The device is targeted at price point three times less than others – some EUR 50. Personal GSM tracker sales are expected to reach an average of 5,000 devices per million European residents. Agreement provides to produce and sell 1 Million of trackers per 2 years.
"The personal GSM tracker will be the world’s smallest new-generation tracking device helping to identify the location of a person holding such a device", comments Zydrunas Andruska, Director of TOBE GPS. "The GSM tracker technology is attractive to private users, telecommunication and mobile operators, security system and logistics companies, public authorities and other business sectors. Our market embraces over 4 billion mobile users all over the world who want to know where their children, people suffering from senile diseases, employees, vehicles or other mobile equipment are. In cooperation with our Italian partner, we will offer a tracking device with the GSM function twice as small as a matchbox. This is a GSM tracker technology revolution."
"We are happy that TOBE intends to use the GE865-QUAD as the ideal solution for its embedded cellular Cell ID GSM Tracker application, supporting the TOBE GPS Cell ID Tracker SW Suite", says Mads Kring, Regional Sales Director for Nordic & Baltic of Telit Wireless Solutions."Because of its extremely compact 22x22mm form factor, the GE865-QUAD opens up this new vertical area of M2M application of non-GPS featured asset tracking. In addition, with the recent launch of Telit’s Remote AT service, AT commands can be sent to the module via SMS or TCP. This dramatically simplifies remote access to the application as commands can be self-executed and modified by the module. This is the key for hard-to-access applications, in which data such as the battery status needs to be monitored. Thanks to its quad-band capability, the module can operate reliably worldwide."
The agreement between TOBE GPS and Telit Wireless Solutions allow adequate room in the Personal GSM Tracker for the implementation of CHIP-SIM technology. Such a solution is especially attractive for mobile operators due to the absence of a possibility for mobile subscribers to migrate. In addition, operators having no location-based service (LBS) system will be offered a complete technology solution produced by TOBE GPS. This is a unique solution and the first project this kind in the world.
