The Nexcor system identifies ECG abnormalities and sends a response team automatically
São Paulo, Brasil – December 11, 2012 – Telit Wireless Solutions, a leading global vendor of high-quality machine-to-machine (M2M) modules and value-added services, announced today that its module was selected by Corcam Technology, a Brazilian based tele-cardiology company, to integrate Nexcor, an innovative, next-generation continuous-duty, portable, and mobile heart monitoring system.
Employing embedded intelligence, the system can monitor the patient’s electrocardiogram trace continuously. When Nexcor’s analysis algorithms identify an ECG abnormality, the system automatically generates an exam report and sends it to a monitoring center to be evaluated by a cardiologist. Based on established protocols, the center moves to secure prompt assistance for the patient because time is a critical factor in the treatment of heart problems.
"The idea for this system came from a personal experience, when my brother suffered a fatal heart attack. Maybe if Nexcor had existed at that time this would not have happened", said Cesar Claudio Margarida, Co-Founder and Nexcor Software Engineer. "To provide people the possibility to employ software plus a device capable of recognizing cardiac events such as acute ischemia and arrhythmia, which in most cases are asymptomatic in their early stages, allowing prompt and timely response to their condition, potentially saving their lives is a way for me to honor my brother’s life".
"Reliable Telit module technology delivered as an integral part of a support and services bundle was exactly what we needed and allowed us to remain focused on the complex development of the application software and the medical side of the device" said the engineer. The device has already been approved on clinical trials at one of the most renowned cardiology centers in Latin America, Hospital HCor. The study evaluated 152 patients with known heart problems. The monitor was evaluated on its capability to detect ECG alterations and transmit the results automatically. The conclusion was that Nexcor showed high potential as a screening tool for cardiovascular events, especially for its ability to auto-detect electrocardiographic alterations.
Telit’s engineering design-in services and support are structured to fully complement the module in an offering that streamlines the integration of m2m functionality its customers’ devices. The company orchestrates delivery of engineering services and support from a network of its own 27 sales and support offices, an online technical support forum, as well as from a group of company appointer competence centers serving the various market regions globally.
"There are many examples of the possibilities for M2M – this is a great one. We are proud to be part of Corcam’s Nexcor not only with our modules, but also with the engineering support and value added services that made the creation of this system possible", said Ricardo Buranello, Telit Latin America Director. "Continuous remote heart monitoring has the possibility of saving countless lives in the future".
Industry’s only pure-play m2m, Telit creates value by partnering with customers to provide expert guidance and support from concept development through to manufacturing quickly bringing ideas to market in all application areas including the new "smart" space. With service enhanced products in cellular, short-range, and satellite-navigation easily bundled through high-level software interfaces, Telit-powered m2m devices cost less to integrate, maintain, operate, and update with lower price points for bundled products and savings translating into competitive advantage at the time of sale and throughout the operating life of the customer device.
