SimpliSafe’s Home Security System Employs Cellular Connectivity Enabled by Telit Modules

Fully featured wireless security added and customized in minutes; DIY system pre-programmed to work instantly.

Raleigh, N.C. – August 26, 2014 – Telit Wireless Solutions, a leading global provider of high-quality machine-to-machine (M2M) modules and services, has announced that SimpliSafe’s self-install home security system employs Telit modules to enable cellular connectivity.  SimpliSafe uses the Telit 910 family to provide coverage on both CDMA and GSM networks for complete nationwide coverage.

The cellular module is embedded in the system’s plug-and-play base station, which monitors and controls up to 41 wireless sensors. It utilizes the same cellular technology as a cell phone and instantly sends alarm alerts to SimpliSafe whenever their security system is triggered, so SimpliSafe customers don’t need to depend on a landline connection to get 24/7 protection of their homes.

Burglars often smash keypads so that the police don’t get alerted. SimpliSafe’s cellular module is hidden in its discreet base station, which stays quiet until it alerts the monitoring service. Then it blasts its sirens.

SimpliSafe offers its optional professional monitoring for $14.99/month without contracts. This service has typically only been available at monthly rates of $42 or higher with a mandatory contract. Cellular modules are typically an expensive premium add-on for most security systems. Telit’s low-cost, high-quality modules enable SimpliSafe to include this advanced feature in every system, at no additional cost to end users.

In addition to being a low-cost solution, SimpliSafe’s DIY installation takes as little as 15 minutes. Because all the components are wireless and pre-programmed, there is no need to drill holes or run wires.

Notebooks or smartphones can be used to monitor the home environment and also to arm or disarm the system.

“CNET said that if you want comprehensive, easy-to-use security system, you’ll have a hard time finding a better option at a better price than SimpliSafe. I can’t top that,” said CEO Chad Laurans. “We believe being safe should be simple. We don’t do fear tactics, we don’t do contracts. It’s just easy-to-use, 21st century security that really works.”

“So many home security systems are stuck using the same old technology as 25 years ago,” said Mike Ueland, President of Telit Americas.  “SimpliSafe is taking advantage of new, disruptive technology to create a better, smarter security system. Telit is thrilled to be delivering the communications functionality for SimpliSafe’s innovative IoT network”
