Intel and Telit Partner to Promote the Internet of Things in Brazil

Intel to supply developer’s kits to students taking part in the Telit Cup Brasil IoT innovation contest targeted at colleges and universities

São Paulo, March 12, 2015 – Intel Corporation and Telit Wireless Solutions, a global enabler of the Internet of the Things (IoT), value-added services and solutions today announced a joint initiative to foster IoT entrepreneurship in the Internet of Things in Brazil.  Intel will supply developer’s kits for groups who have been pre-qualified in the Telit Cup Brasil, an innovation competition for university level students in engineering and technology programs, created to promote the development of ideas and concepts involving connected machines to improve the quality of urban life.

The twelve groups qualified in the first phase of the Telit Cup Brasil from institutions including USP, Inatel and Fiap, comprised of up to three students and a counseling professor, will have through June 2015 to present a working prototype of the business plan submitted with the initial registration process. “Telit modules will deliver GPS, 2G and 3G functionalities and the Intel kit becomes the perfect complement to deliver the processing power for the solutions proposed by the qualified groups,” explains Ricardo Buranello, General Manager and Vice President Telit Latin America.

The main objective of the competition is to give winning solutions the opportunity to become viable in the business world, potentially even marketed to improve quality of life for Brazilian city dwellers.  To ensure this opportunity, intellectual property of all solutions developed for the competition will remain exclusively the students’ and professors’ developing them.  “Intel’s and Telit’s role is to deliver all technical and material support required for the qualified groups to attain their stated goals,” explains Rubem Saldanha, Education Manager at Intel Semiconductors. “We look forward to seeing what these brilliant young minds can do with our products to improve people’s lives”.

First prize for the Telit Cup Brasil is an expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for all members of the winning group to one of technology’s largest events, CTIA Super Mobility Week 2015, to provide the group an opportunity to network and connect with partners to take their product ideas forward.
