The BF1150 multifunctional terminal includes not only a navigation function but also a Bluetooth hands-free device, an electronic journey log and a telematics function. Via a specially created web portal, the fleet manager can check the fleet status on an interactive map and send orders as text messages to a specific fleet vehicle’s telematics module. If an order contains address details, these can be fed automatically into the telematics module’s navigation system. This makes the device particularly suitable for SME-sector customers such as workshops or service companies who have small to medium-sized vehicle fleets.
High requirements on M2M module technology
The core of the telematics device is the GE864-QUAD automotive module from Telit, which was developed especially for the tough demands of the automobile industry. It has a form factor of just 30 x 30 x 2.8 mm and operates stably in an extended temperature range from -40° to +85°C. Thanks to its quad-band capability, it can operate smoothly on all global GSM networks and, like all Telit modules, also supports Telit Infinita Services, which include both premium FOTA management with extended software warranty and an extended hardware warranty service.
"The key decider in our choice of Telit was the company’s comprehensive service pledge," said Jens Lemke, Director Research & Development Telematics and Navigation at Bury. "In the OEM sector, strict deadlines are an everyday reality. That’s why we need to be able to reply on expert support at all times. And Telit has fully kept its promise."
"The development of a multifunctional telematics solution for fleet management paves the way for solutions that will satisfy future requirements in the automotive industry," said Felix Marchal, Global VP Sales Telit Communications PLC. "M2M technology is an important part of this development. As a result, we’ll continue to carry out intensive research to further develop our innovative modules in future."
The BF1150 is scheduled to be available on the market from the fourth quarter of 2009.
