Telit Wireless Solutions’ M2M module selected by Quake Global for rugged vehicle remote tracking & control devices

Quake Global’s Uniquely Customizable Q-Pro and Q4000 Vehicle Tracking Applications Feature Telit’s GE865-QUAD, the World’s Smallest GSM/GPRS M2M Module

LAS VEGAS – March 24, 2010 – Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc., the U.S.-based mobile technology arm of Telit Communications (AIM: TCM), announced today that the world’s smallest GSM/GPRS M2M (machine-to-machine) communications module, Telit’s GE865-QUAD, was selected by Quake Global, Inc., a leading manufacturer of satellite data modems for tracking, monitoring, and controlling industrial assets, to remotely connect QUAKE’s Q-Pro and Q4000 smart modems to cellular networks for expanded asset tracking and increased reliability.

Designed to remotely track, monitor and control valuable mobile assets like heavy equipment, trucks, locomotives, rail cars and shipping containers, the industrial strength Q-Pro and Q4000 can be accessed from anywhere in the world. These fully programmable devices can be integrated into existing applications or act as complete standalone solutions. With a form factor of only 22 x 22 x 3 mm and optimized power consumption, Telit’s GE865-QUAD is the ideal module for QUAKE’s compact Q-Pro and Q4000.

"While the miniature size of Telit’s module allowed us to design even more compact asset tracking devices, our selection was ultimately based on Telit’s proven record around its Ball-Grid Array (BGA) installation concept, low power draw, and excellent design support," said Sergio Ramos, Chief Technology Officer of Quake Global, Inc. "Telit’s commitment to quality will enable us to deliver effective, reliable products to our customers."

The Q-Pro and Q4000 have earned PTCRB certification, and are immediately available for deployment on select cellular networks in the U.S. They each feature an array of customizable options to provide made-to-order, cost-effective solutions for OEMs, value added resellers and end customers. Among the various options, QUAKE customers can use both satellite and GSM/GPRS wireless delivery systems to track locations, as well as optional GPS capabilities that include sophisticated geo-fencing.

QUAKE’s Q-Pro and Q4000 are ideal solutions for monitoring mobile assets as they feature a small, rugged form factor and can withstand extreme shocks and sustained vibration levels. In customizing these units for integration with a specific application, customers can select from an array of features including a J1939 CAN BUS, analog inputs, additional general purpose inputs/outputs, relays, or a programmable ARM processor that is fully supported by an application programmer’s interface.

"QUAKE’s impressive list of customers, which is comprised of the world’s most recognized brand names in the construction and heavy equipment market, is built upon their deep experience in developing global asset tracking technology. The company’s selection of our module represents an important milestone in the launch of our GE865-QUAD product and a testament of Telit innovation," said Michael Ueland, Vice-President and General Manager of Telit Wireless Solutions.

Telit’s GE865-QUAD is one of the company’s first products to incorporate a next-generation quad-band GSM/GPRS chipset from Infineon, providing the basis for the module’s innovative single-chip design solution. The module also features tape and reel packaging and an integrated TCP/IP protocol stack that provides support for UDP, FTP and SMTP via AT commands.

Equipped with Premium FOTA Management, the GE865-QUAD can receive over-the-air remote software updates. Additionally, since Telit owns and controls the firmware within its modules, any changes to underlying chipsets will have minimal impact on customers’ application designs.
