Telit m2m module powers new CDMA terminal from Janus remote communications

Telit CC864-Dual Module Enables New Janus Terminus CDMA864D Integrated Wireless Terminal to Run M2M Applications on North American CDMA Networks

Raleigh, NC – October 19, 2010 – Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc., the U.S.-based mobile technology arm of Telit Communications (AIM: TCM), announced today that its CC864-DUAL, a CDMA-1XRTT dual-band cellular M2M communications module, has been selected by Janus Remote Communications, a designer, manufacturer and distributor of standard and custom M2M products, to enable cellular data communications for the company’s new Terminus CDMA864D integrated wireless terminal.

Now available with Sprint Certification, the new Terminus is an intelligent CDMA Control Terminal that offers a comprehensive solution for M2M capability in one compact, cost-effective solution. Engineered for lower volume M2M applications, the Janus Terminus CDMA864D requires no additional customer certification and very low levels of customer integration. The Terminus can host and control entire M2M wireless applications, minimizing the need for extra components, and is ideal for use in fleet and asset management, vending, security, alarm monitoring, e-maintenance and other telemetry and telematics applications.

"We have enjoyed an excellent track record with Telit, leveraging their unified form factor design concept to expand network access capability across multiple generations of our wireless M2M terminals. Telit’s pre-certified design methodology greatly simplified the integration of the CC864-DUAL module into our next-generation Terminus, rapidly accelerating time-to-market by drastically cutting back the time commitment typically associated with redesigns for new network and carrier compatibility," said Dave Jahr, General Manager for Janus Remote Communications.

The Telit CC864-DUAL was designed specifically for North America and features the same form factor, function and AT command set as its GSM/GPRS and UMTS/HSDPA counterparts. This enables M2M developers like Janus to design an application only once and deploy globally across multiple cellular network technologies like GSM/GPRS, UMTS/HSDPA and CDMA-1xRTT by seamlessly swapping modules and avoiding costly redesigns.

"Janus has been a valuable partner for Telit, and the compact Terminus devices are the ideal solution for companies seeking to leverage the power of M2M to cost-effectively track, monitor or regulate the status of valuable assets," said Michael Ueland, Vice President and General Manager of Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc.

Janus’ Terminus CDMA864D joins the company’s robust family of Terminus wireless products, all of which contain required circuitry to operate on certified wireless networks. External antenna connections enable the system integrator to meet application-specific requirements. The CDMA864D allows for stand-alone use via industry standard interconnects or system integration via standard 50-pin 0.1" x 0.1" dual row header, further reducing the need for additional hardware costs. The CDMA864D’s ability to configure 9 GPIOs as CMOS input or output makes the Terminus CDMA864D both innovative and cost effective.

With its ultra-compact design, and extended operating temperature range of -30° C to 80°C, Telit’s CC864-DUAL is the perfect platform for medium-to-high-volume M2M applications and mobile data and computing devices. In addition to other value-added features, the CC864-DUAL incorporates standalone GPS and gpsOne® capabilities for applications in mobile environments such as telematics, personal and asset tracking, as well as over-the-air maintenance and management of software in the module to protect customer investments.
