The platform facilitates the use of M2M applications with the mobile network.
This platform, the number one differentiated solution for data transmission between machines, facilitates the integration of M2M applications with the mobile network, significantly reducing installation time and meeting customers’ needs in terms of security, speed and availability. These characteristics, along with Telit’s key values of business scalability, ease of integration and investment protection, make the company’s M2M modules the most efficient solution on the market.
Telit’s customers will have access to all the value-added services of Telefónica’s Smart M2M platform, along with the operator’s data transmission and service lines. Some of the applications developed from Telefónica’s M2M platform permit, for example, remote temperature measurement, the localisation of persons, vehicles or animals, the sending of alarms, the remote update of software, the installation of backup lines, remote control of actions or the issue of warnings when the presence of persons is detected in facilities.
"The value-added services of Telefónica’s Smart M2M platform will have a direct impact on the service quality we offer our customers. The integration of the platform’s API into Telit’s modules demonstrates the benefits of our collaboration with Telefónica, which has been in force for over a year now," says Carlos Pérez, Telit’s Regional Sales Director France, Spain and Portugal. "The commitment of Telefónica, a leading player in the global telecoms market, to create new services and support the development of innovative applications is of great importance to us since it perfectly fits with Telit’s strategy of offering its customers the most advanced M2M technology in the world."
The collaboration between Telit and Telefónica started in February this year when the two companies signed a strategic alliance, opening the doors of their R&D&I centres to optimise the development of future services and products. The first practical outcome of their collaboration was Telit’s UMTS/HSDPA module, unveiled at the last 3GSM conference.
Telit’s modules are constantly updated to incorporate the latest technical innovations in order to meet the market’s increasingly complex demands. One example is the integration of GSM/GRPS/GPS technologies, which is increasingly being applied to improve productivity in every industrial sector. This year, Telit Communications was the first company to offer products which combine GSM/GPRS and GPS technologies in a minimum space, thereby reducing costs as well as time for integration and for the production of the end device. The integration of Telefónica’s Smart M2M platform represents another step in this policy of developing cheaper and more efficient solutions for customers.
