  1. I am using the UC864-G on the Bell Mobility network (Canada). I received a lot of modem which take a very long time before getting registered on the network. It take 17 minutes before it get the network signal. I have look differents parameters and every thing look fine. Is there a way to speed up the registration time?

    1. Do you mean only the new lot behaves like this, while older modules, in the same place, same antenna, are working well?

      Check signal, set band AT#BND, try with 2G registration instead of 3G.

        On the same device, some modem are registering fast (15 sec) and some are very long to connect. It is not the last one I bought it is some older one but in some region it is worst (over 30 minutes to register). I have -85 to -90 dbm at my test facility and still take over 15 minutes to register.

        If I change my registration to 2G will I loose data transfer speed? Why in the same condition some work great and other not?

    1. Here is the result you asked me. I was not sure if you need the answer before or after the registration so I did both for the bad module. Unfortunately the good module register too fast so I  was not able to supply the info before registration.

            after issuing the command on the bad module I powered off and than on the unit and nothing is different.

          2. Anybody has an idea on how to get thoses modem to register on the network faster??? Is there a way to make sure the firmware is good on these modem? I have near 10 modems that have the problem all others work great. I know my distributer program the firmware of those modem before sending it to me. Is it possible that he made a mistake on a lot that he send me? all defectives unit seem to be manufactured at the same time. Any thought any body???

          3. What is the firmware version your distributor programmed inside?

            You can verify with AT+CGMR

             

            Can you confirm that modules with the same sw. version behaves differently?

             

             

    1. The signal level seems ok. It is comparable with the good modules, but you can do this test. Remove the SIM then issue AT#CSURVB=10 to scan the best 10 BCCH.

       

      Let’s compare good and bads and least from RX point of view. 

       

      Is the registration on bad modules stable once camped on a cell or is it easy to loose the signal ? Are voice calls, SMS and data connections ok?

    Once the connection is done, everry thing is good, the connection is not lost very often like all others good modem. it is only the registration to bell canada that is awfully long. I only use the modem in data mode (no voice and no SMS).

  5. Here is some news about this problem. I am using a embedded linux system in my

    product. When I try to start the PPP client (with pon) too early the modem refuse to register to the network. if I stop PPP client  and I issue a AT#MONI it take a few secondes and the modem register. Then A can restart my PPP client and every thing work well.

    If I don’t try to start the PPP client the modem register always quickly…

    Any idea???

  6. Forget about the AT#MONI. Only by stopping the PPP client it is enough to make the modem register on hte network (1 minutes after stopping the client). if PPP continue to try to connect, the modem wiil take a very long time before registering on the network. I made a patch to delay the PPP client and the system work fine now.

    Can somebody explain why it happen and maybe giving a better patch than waiting 3 minutes before trying to connect on the network. it is also strange that some modem are working and some not.
