GL865-QUAD gprs stops working

  1. Hello,

Occasionally a few of our devices stop sending data. I can investigate via the remote SMS at interface. I quickly detected that AT#GPRS? reports a 0. Attempting to attach via AT#GPRS=1 results in a +CME ERROR: Activation failed. After this AT#CEER reports 237, AT#CEERNET reports 10. The module is running the 10.00.147 firmware.

These devices send data successfully for a random period of days until this issue occurs again. After this the devices are registered to the network but the issue can only be resolved by rebooting. This is not a good solution.

I have not found anything useful concerning the AT#CEER and #CEERNET codes on the internet (incl. these forums). Have you guys got any idea how to debug this?

    1. The codes are listed in Telit AT Commands Reference Guide:

      AT#CEER 237:

PDP unsuccessful activation cause SM refuse

      AT#CEERNET 10:

      IMPLICITLY DETACHED

      1. Yes, I know. That’s also *all* of the documentation regarding the error coodes. What do they mean? I’m interested to know what causes this issue and what are the possible solutions?

Why does the SM (Session management?) refuse the activation?

        1. Might be an work around: perform AT+CGATT=0, wait 5 seconds and AT+CGATT=1 cycle and later retry to activate the PDP.

          It
could be interesting to understabnd if you use a Virtual MNO like
Jasper or telenor. In that case time to time the MNVO could refuse the
service due to lack of resources.

          1. So it might be a MVNO problem, even a reboot seems to be the solution. Can you test a SIM from another operator?

An in depth investigation with the RTD trace tool will reveal the cause, contact Telit directly for further instructions (ts-emea@telit.com).

          2. I have a similar though not identical problem.

Using Jasper SIM. Data connection in operation and all ok. Then SIM gets deactivated in the network (based on a trigger or operator decision). Fine, now my 865 based systems sees it cannot register or make a data connection. Now the SIM is reactivated. The telit modem will now re-register (CREG) but CANNOT re-activate the PDP connection. It gives ‘activation failed’ and the CEER 237 as reported above. A reset of the modem results immediate recovery i.e. attach to nw then pdp context can be activated.

I tried different recovery options CGATT=0, and so on.

Can Telit suggest a work around that does not involve resetting the modem?

My version of FW is 10.5

          3. please try deactivating and activating the SIM using one of the following options:

            1) AT#SIMDET=0 / 5s pause / AT#SIMDET=1 or 2 depending on default value you are using

            2) AT+CFUN=4 / 5s pause / AT+CFUN=1

It is possible that the SIM has to be reinitialized when the operator reactivate the SIM.
