Raleigh, NC - June 25, 2012 - Telit Wireless Solutions, a leading global provider of high-quality machine-to-machine (M2M) modules and services, today announced that its M2M modules will enable connectivity for solar compactors and waste receptacles operated by BigBelly Solar, a leading global provider of innovative and sustainable solutions for the management of waste and recycling.
BigBelly Solar enables its customers to become more environmentally sustainable through its powerful management console, software-enabled network command center and family of mix and match waste and recycling stations. With connected intelligence enabled by Telit's GE864-QUAD V2 module, BigBelly Solar's toolkit enables municipalities, colleges & universities, government facilities and other institutional customers to reduce the operating costs associated with waste collection by 80 percent.
"Leveraging the cellular connectivity of Telit modules, we were able to achieve reliable communications channels between our waste management assets and central control center, enabling remote diagnostics, over-the-air software updates and preventative maintenance alerts that further reduce the operating costs for our customers," said Michael Feldman, Vice President of Engineering for BigBelly Solar.
In 2011, BigBelly Solar began to evolve from its roots as a creator of the patented solar-powered trash compactor to a provider of enterprise systems, optimally managing public space waste and recycling collection operations. Telit's GE864-QUAD V2 module integrates the BigBelly solar compactors and SmartBelly receptacles into a "smart grid" network, which provides information regarding the fullness and collection activity directly to customers, ultimately optimizing schedules, simplifying processes and reducing costs.
"BigBelly Solar's waste management solution is a prime example of M2M providing a compelling public benefit, both optimizing publicly funded services and reducing environmental impact," said Mike Ueland, senior vice president and general manager of Telit Wireless Solutions North America.
Telit's GE864-QUAD V2 product is one of the smallest GSM/GPRS Ball-Grid-Array (BGA) modules in the market, enabling the design of very compact applications. With its ultra-compact design and extended temperature range, the Telit GE864 product line is the perfect platform for high-volume m2m applications and mobile data devices.
