With its own IPR and its GSM/GPRS protocol stack software platform, Telit is now an innovative and flexible partner for any potential m2m application. Its lengthy experience in the handset market has enabled Telit to design competitive m2m products. The full control of its own GSM/GPRS protocol stack and the AT command interface allows Telit to be at the cutting edge of software technology, and to respond very quickly if any customization should be necessary. Telit understands the current and future requirements of the industry, and thus is able to offer a complete portfolio of cost-optimized and scalable solutions, delivering the latest technology from the leading suppliers, such as IMC and Qualcomm. The technology of the GSM chipset is in constant evolution, making current technologies quickly obsolete.

In this regard, Telit has been able to define a strategy that despite the changing internal technology of the components allow the form factor and pin-out to remain unchanged. As a result, Telit's solutions allow customers to protect their applications and their investments, because the market requires high quality and stable products, from a functional, mechanical and electrical point of view.

GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is a packet oriented mobile data service available to users of the 2G cellular communication systems (GSM), as well as in the 3G systems. In 2G systems, GPRS provides data rates of 56-114 kbit/s. It is particularly suited for sending and receiving small bursts of data.

G24-EDGE

Now with the acquisition of Motorola's m2m module business, Telit is able to offer EDGE technology, filling the gap between the portfolio offer of GPRS and UMTS. Such radio access technology is available within the G24 family. Moreover the customer can choose between two variants, with or without the Java feature.

UMTS, third generation mobile technologies identified by 3G, represents an evolution in terms of capacity, data speeds and new service capabilities to support greater numbers of mobile voice and data information with significantly higher data rates and increased capacity at lower incremental cost than 2G. 3G/UMTS employs a 5 MHz channel carrier and provides optimum use of radio resources, especially for operators who have been granted large, contiguous blocks of spectrum. 3G/UMTS in its initial phase offers theoretical bit rates of up to 384 kbps in high mobility situations, rising as high as tens of Mbps in stationary/nomadic user environments. Symmetry between uplink and downlink data rates when using paired (FDD) spectrum also means that 3G/UMTS is ideally suited for applications such as real-time and video telephony. Specified and implemented as an end-to-end mobile system, 3G/UMTS also features the additional benefits of automatic international roaming plus integral security and billing functions, allowing operators to migrate from 2G to 3G/UMTS which gives operators the flexibility to introduce new multimedia services to business users and consumers while providing an enhanced user experience.

High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) technologies are already standardized. Promising theoretical downlink speeds as high as 84 Mbps and beyond (and respectively 23 and beyond Mbps uplink), these technologies will play an instrumental role in positioning 3G/UMTS as a key enabler for true 'mobile broadband'. Offering data transmission speeds of the same order of magnitude as today's Ethernet-based networks that are a ubiquitous feature of the fixed-line environment, 3G/UMTS offers all the benefits of broadband connectivity whilst on the move.

Further speed increases are available with HSPA+ and is the natural evolution of HSPA. HSPA+ enhances mobile broadband with data rates up to 42 Mbps, doubles the data capacity over HSPA and more than doubles voice capacity over WCDMA.

The Telit HE910 module includes features like HSDPA 14.4 Mbps (Cat 10) and HSUPA 5.7 Mbps (Cat 6) due to its low profile, low consumption and advanced connectivity features, HE910 is particularly suitable for applications such as mobile computing devices, PDAs, smartphones, table PCs and consumer electronics in general.

The third generation of mobile technology is in the shape of UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) with WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) as radio access technology offers business users and consumers an evolution of their current mobile experience to add video and other services. WCDMA technology offers new and existing operators alike a more economical platform to cope with projected growth in demand for voice and data services.

The Telit APAC Operation is the leading vendor of CDMA data embedded modules and external wireless modems in South Korea. Telit CDMA products boast pin-to-pin compatibility across products and a range of OTA (over-the-air) functions to maintenance and management of all software in the module, to protect customer investments in developing and deploying solutions based on Telit modules.

Similar to HSPA for UMTS operators, EV-DO is the upgrade path for the majority of CDMA operators. EV-DO Release 0 support downlink peak rates up to 2.4 Mbps, typical end user rates of 400 - 700 kbps and approximately 3 times the data capacity of CDMA 1x.

The DE910-DUAL is based on EV-DO Revision A that improves downlink rates to 3.1 Mbps and more importantly, improves uplink peaks rates to 1.8Mbps. EV-DO Rev. A that also improves capacity, lower packet latency, and provides QoS controls for different IP streams, enabling very efficient VoIP services.
